Chatham Cup - Round 2

The Central Football Federation had five teams left in Round 2 of the Chatham Cup with two advancing into Round 3. Central League side Napier City Rovers AFC proved too strong for Capital Premier team Island Bay United AFC as Rovers won 4-2 thanks to a brace from Deri Corfe with Tsar Mitchener getting a consolation brace for Island Bay. FC Western Inc won the local Premiership level derby 4-1 against New Plymouth Boys High School at Webster Field with all the goals being shared around. Central League side Whanganui Athletic went down 2-1 to a late winner from fellow Central League team Petone FC in the 94th minute and in the final game Pacific Premiership side Napier Marist FC made a great account of themselves but just couldn’t find a way past Central League team North Wellington FC as Marist went down 1-0. 

 

Kate Sheppard Cup – Round 2

There were three Central Football Federation teams left in the Kate Sheppard Cup for Round 2 action with only one surviving. Palmerston North Marist FC from the Central League were too classy for Federation League side Havelock North Wanderers as Marist ran out 7-0 winners thanks to a hat trick from Mikaela Bouwmeester and a double from Lauren Owen. Federation League leaders Moturoa AFC had the difficult task of hosting Central League leaders Wellington United and it was United that advanced with a 4-0 win thanks to a triple strike from Jemma Robertson. 

 

Lotto Central Federation League – Round 8

Saturday saw two matches take place in between a lot of cup action and in was Bayleys Palmerston North United that have come alive as they won 6-0 in the local derby against Watson Integrity PN Marist FC with Aaron Richardson plus Olly Ceci both getting braces for United. In the other match ALH Limited Gisborne Thistle travelled over to Hawke’s Bay to take on Thirsty Whale Napier City Rovers and the game looked to be finishing as a goalless draw before both sides scored late. Golden Boot leader Jimmy Somerton put Thistle ahead in the 95th minute before Harry Anderson pegged it back straight away in the 96th minute as the sides drew 1-1. Shani’s Taradale AFC had the Bye in Round 8 as Rovers still lead the pack from Marist but the table is tight and with games in hand for some teams anyone of the five sides could be Champions in 2023. 

 

Women’s Federation Cup – Round 1

The Women’s Federation Cup continued on Sunday with the five remaining Round 1 fixtures completed. Quality Pumping Limited Port Hill United Women from Hawke’s Bay Women’s Division 1 travelled over to Wembley Park to take on Wanganui City FC Women’s 1sts from the Kelly Hiroa Premiership and it was Port Hill that took the win 3-1 to move onto the next round with the goal being shared around. Taradale AFC Women’s Reserves from the Hawke’s Bay Women’s Division 1 knocked over Federation League side OneStaff PN Marist Women’s Reserves 2-0 at Taradale Park in the big upset from Round 1. Chillmax Takaro AFC X-Force from the Team Robinson Manawatu Women’s league proved too strong at home as they won 4-1 against Western Rangers Women’s who are from the Hawke’s Bay Women’s Division 1. Braces from Paula Dimock and Aliza Snow helped Pak’n’Save Hawera FC Women’s defeat Taranaki Premiership rivals Eltham AFC Ladies 5-0. In the final game played Westshore Beach Inn Eskview Blues from Hawke’s Bay Women’s Division 1 won 14-0 over Kaitake FC Women from the Taranaki Premiership at the neutral venue of Skoglund Park in Manawatu. Four goals were scored by Jane Barnett, three from Briar Cloake plus doubles from Nancy Reed, Ailbhe Madden and Georgia Barnett. So these winners advance to the Quarter Finals on the 9th of July and will be joined ATLAS NP Rangers AFC Women’s Feds plus Excel Refrigeration Moturoa AFC who won last weekend with Chef’s Choice Whanganui Athletic Women’s 1st Team that had the Bye also progressing.   

 

 

Lotto Men’s Federation Cup – Round 2

Pak n Save Tamatea Napier Marist from the Pacific Premiership won 2-1 over last year’s Champions Heavy Equipment Gisborne United 1sts from the Eastern League 1 thanks to both goals from Mustafa Can. In a Horizons Premiership local battle Advanced Electrical Palmerston North United FC got the home win 3-1 against teamlewis innovation Feilding United AFC Men’s 1sts with two goals being netted by Anthony Jones. A brace from Phillip King helped LongChill Takaro AFC Jokers from the Horizons Premiership win 6-1 away to Taranaki Men’s Division 1 one side Smith & Sons Eltham AFC. In the local Taranaki Premiership derby NZ Forestry Peringa United were too strong for Premier Heating NPBHS 1st XI as Peringa won 4-0 with Jayden Gally bagging a brace. The Federation League teams match between Thirsty Whale Napier City Rovers and Watson Integrity PN Marist FC went to extra time and was won 2-1 by Rovers thanks to a 106th minute winner from Alex Davies. GJ Gardner Homes Whanganui Athletic Reserves from the Horizons Premiership got the 2-0 victory away over Peggy Gordon’s NP Rangers AFC from Taranaki Premiership at Yarrow Stadium and in the final match played TMT Building Ltd Moturoa AFC also won 2-0 away at Wanganui City FC 1sts from the Horizons Premiership. Pak’n’Save Hawera FC defaulted to Shani’s Taradale AFC in the eighth scheduled match. 

 

 

YORB HORIZONS PREMIERSHIP:

Friday night under the lights at Arena Manawatu seen Longchill Takaro Jokers take on PNBHS 1st XI. First half goals from Mark Manson and Dylan Welch enough to see the home side hold on to claim an important 2-0 win over a very strong Boys High team.

At Massey University Advance Electrical Palmerston North United welcomed Youm Marist Reserves. Lachlan Robinson gave Marist the lead in the 15th minute as they went into halftime with the lead.  Quinn Grainger equalised for United in the 48th minute. The match looked to heading for a draw before Anthony Jones netted in the 95th minute to give the home side a thrilling 2-1 victory.

At Wembley Park Wanganui City took on Levin AFC. The home side took an early lead thanks to a 10th minute goal from Daniel Aplin. Levin then responded with goals from Oliver James in the 35th and 38th minute. Aplin then equalised for City in the 85th minute and the match seemed to be heading for a draw. Levin though had other ideas and James completed his hattrick to give Levin the lead in the 92nd minute before Jaedyn Dawson added his name to the score sheet as Levin claimed a thrilling 4-2 victory.

Also, at Wembley GJ Gardner Homes Whanganui Athletic Reserves welcomed Team Lewis Innovation Feilding AFC. Athletic took the lead thanks to Anthony Bell in the 5th minute. Michael Whitmore then equalised for Feilding in the 16th minute. Colt Hodgkinson then restored the lead for Athletic and they went into the break with a 2-1 lead. After the break Bell added his 2nd to extend the lead. Whitmore then reduced the deficit in the 62nd minute with his 2nd goal of the match. An own goal by Athletic then seen the scores back level. Hodgkinson then added his 2nd of the match in the 80th minute which ultimately proved the deciding goal as Athletic held on to claim a hard earned 4-3 win on the day.

PNBHS 1ST XI host league leaders Advance Electrical Palmerston North United at Arena Manawatu for what is sure to be a thrilling top of the table clash.

 

HORIZONS CHAMPIONSHIP:

Palmerston North United Development took on Isles Construction Marist Inter in a top of the table encounter. Ethan Riley put United in front in the 13th minute before Tim Seaholme equalised for Marist in the 39th minute. United took the lead again in the 75th minute thanks to Christopher Hamlin. United looked to have secured victory however Marist had other ideas and Charles Parker netted in the 92nd minute to level the scores at 2-2 as the sides couldn’t be split and took a point each away from the match.

Chillmax Takaro Titans took on PNBHS 2nd XI at Skoglund Park. The students started well and took the lead in the 17th minute thanks to a goal from Al Bara Al Sakkaf. The second half started well for Takaro with Brogan Hennessy finding the back of the net to level the scores. Then quick goals from Ramazan Ali and Thomas Addy gave them a two-goal cushion that they were able to hold onto and claim a hard fought 3-1 win against a well drilled boy’s high side.

Sulaiman . Feilding however were determined not to go down without a fight. Jake Teacy and Chris JonesLinton FC jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in their match against Team Campbell - Harcourts Feilding Reserves thanks to goals from Kigozi reducing the deficit mid-way through the first half. The sides exchanged chances with neither being able to capitalise. It looked like Linton were going to hold on for the win until the 85th minute when Kigozi claimed his 2nd of the match. The remaining few minutes had both benches on the edge of their seats but neither side could find the all-important 3rd goal and the game ended in a hard fought 2-2 draw.

Game the round (10):

Isles Construction Marist Inter take on Linton FC at Skoglund Park. 1 v 3 on the table and this match is sure to be exciting.

 

MANAWATU DIVISION 1:

Takaro Jhapa United took on Levin Colts. Ramesh Chhetri gave the home side the lead with a 17th minute strike. A second half brace from Netra Ghimire adding to their tally as they held Levin scoreless to claim a well-deserved 3-0 win.

Massey University Good Guys welcomed Smartphone Repairs Marist Celts to campus. The students proving to be too good on the day as they secured a 5-1 victory.  Goal Scorers for Massey were Sam Christophers (2), Connor Tunnicliffe, Liam Wells, and Michael Wishnowsky. Marist goal scorer was Brandon Holdt.

At Celaeno Park the Red Sox Wrinklies were out to avenge their cup loss to the Freedom Plus Marist Bulldogs. That they did as they ran out 7-0 winners in this one thanks to goals from Andrew Roydhouse (2), Sam Lee (2), Logan Amey, Benjamin Pitcher, and Adam Rose.

Goals either side of Half Time from James Kelly and William Hodge proved to be the difference as North End Old Boys accounted for a determined Chillmax Takaro Rebels 2-0 at Skoglund Park.

On Monday in a Round 1 catch up match Red Sox Wrinklies welcomed Levin AFC Colts to Skoglund Park. In what was a high scoring match the Wrinklies came out winners 6-3 against a determined young Levin side. Wrinklies Scorers Benjamin Pitcher (3), Andrew Roydhouse (2), and Troy Falcon. Levin’s Goals coming from Nathan Eyles, Lachlan Trask, and an Own Goal.

Game the round (10):

North End Old Boys up against Massey University Good Guys. Both teams are in great form, and this is sure to be a great clubhouse derby match. 

 

MANAWATU DIVISION 2:

Red Sox Saints welcomed Levin Sports to Celaeno Park. Zane Hartwell gave Levin an early lead with a goal in the 6th minute. Elijah Houlahan then equalised for Red Sox in the 31st minute. Hartwell then scored his 2nd of the game and Levin went into the break with a 2-1 lead. Red Sox came out firing after the break and scored 4 quick goals Elijah Houlahan completing his hattrick as well as goals from Charlos Wakur and Reuben Houlahan as they jumped out to a 5-2 lead. Levin kept fighting and netted again in the 85th minute through Michael Collis however that would only be a consolation goal as the match ended 5-3 to the Saints.

Also, at Celaeno Park the CAC Marist Greenies hosted Dannevirke Rangers. The sides played out a good old fashion arm wrestle. An 84th minute Blake Feekery goal the difference as the Greenies claimed a 1-0 win against a determined Dannevirke side.

The Mad Butcher Takaro Fury bounced back to winning ways as they accounted for McDonalds Feilding United Development 7-0 thanks to 5 goals from Ayrton Smith as well as goals to Hayden Johnston and Madison Buchanan.

Red Sox A’s and N&R Builders Marist Park Rangers went to battle at Celaeno Park. Marist took an early lead with goals from Ta Eh Hser, and Yaakob Mohamed.  The A’s pulled a goal back through Isaac Dickerson. However, the Park Rangers were not done, and Mohamed netted twice more in the second half to complete his hattrick. Final Score 4-1 to the Park Rangers.

Game the round (10):

The Mad Butcher Takaro Fury take on North End Veterans the Ashhurst Domain. 3 v 4 on the table and this promises to be a tough match. Who will come out on top here?

 

MANAWATU DIVISION 3:

At the Ashhurst Domain the Manawatu Plunderers welcomed Levin Socials. The match was a 5-goal thriller with Levin coming out on top 3-2 thanks to an 87th minute winner. Levin’s Scorers were Andrew Yan (2), and Andrew Gallagher. Plunderers unknown.

In the Tararua Derby in Woodville it was Woodville AFC up against Post Office Hotel Pahiatua FC. It was the visiting Pahiatua side who continued their winning ways with a well deserved 5-0 win thanks to goals from Liam Williamson (2), Mason Anderson (2), and Bjorn Greaves.

At the Ashhurst Domain Takaro Bua United took on Drillco North End Social.  Bua United coming out on top here by 5-2. Goal Scorers were Nischal Prasad (2), Sharang Sharma, Niten Sahei, and Rajnesh Kumar. North End Scorers unknown.

At Skoglund Park it was Chillmax Takaro Glory up against Groombridge Electrical Feilding C Team. Feilding jumped out to an early lead thanks to goals from Cameron Fairless (2) and Gary Jones as they went into the sheds leading 3-0. Takaro came out with a point to prove in the second half and prevented Feilding from scoring whilst picking up a well worked goal of their own thanks to William Chaffe. Final score 3-1 to Feilding.

At Celaeno Park Red Sox Hustlers took on JRM Automotive Marist Royals. Red Sox took an early lead before Marist scored 5 unanswered goals through Isaiah Salawalak (2), Cristian Tot, and Richard Nielsen. Red Sox then scored a late consolation goal through Sophal Dowall, and the match ended 5-2 to Marist.

Game the round (10):

Red Sox Hustlers welcome Groombridge Electrical Feilding C Team to Skoglund Park. This is also 3 v 4 and sure to be a hard-fought match with both sides looking to close the gap on the top teams.

 

MANAWATU MASTERS DIVISION:

At Skoglund Park the Red Sox Old Boys took on Marist Banshees. Banshees coming away 4-0 winners thanks to goals from Michael Glass (2), Mark Jacobson, and Mohamed Abdalla.

At Donnelly Park Levin Vets hosted Jennian Homes Feilding United masters. It was the visiting Feilding side who came away with an important 5-1 victory on the road to extend their lead at the top of the table. Feilding’s scorers unknown. Levin’s goal coming thanks to Jason Smith in the 55th minute.

In a Marist club derby, the Resonant Masters avenged their first-round loss with a 4-1 victory over the MKM Shamrock Rovers. Masters jumped out to a four-goal lead thanks to goals from Darryl Newsome (2), Robert Shortall, and Richard Lawton before Wayne Parker grabbed a late consolation goal for the Shamrock Rovers who kept fighting until the very end.

At Celaeno Park Red Sox Legends Hosted the Wanganui Marist Wanderers. It was the home side who were convincing winners on the day as they claimed a comfortable 9-1 win. Goal Scorers for Red Sox were Mark McCarten (2), Jason Baylis (2), Samuel Hill, Leonard Drake, Chris Osborne, Sam Miratana, and an Own Goal. Wanderers goal scorer was Peter Tait.

In a Marist Derby the Banshees take on the Resonant master’s at Skoglund Park. Who will claim bragging rights in this match?
